Touch Sensing

Touch Sensing is a software based low cost solution to allow for offsetting the complete or partial weld path. Typically Touch Sensing is done with the wire or nozzle however neither of these methods produces perfect results and more recently the industry has turned to Non-Contact Touch Sensing which uses a simple laser to measure distances. Regardless of the method used external hardware is required for optimum results, such as a wire brake for wire Touch Sensing or a housing for the laser of Non-Contact methods.

It can be used to find a single dimension shift or up to a three dimension part shift, please note the difference between part shifting and part dimensional variance as they are not the same thing. At least one search for each desired offset is required, Touch Sensing works by performing a “Master” search and then stores that as the parts origin for reference later.
